The Energy Leak I Had to Plug Up
On taking my energy back from my iPhone — and remembering what it feels like to be fully present in the real world.
Here’s something that never fails to make me think “Wow, life is so wild.”
No matter what chaos may be presenting itself in the external world – on social media, across the ocean, or in our own communities…
Nature continues to do its thing.
The sun rises.
The trees grow.
The waves roll in.
The birds sing.
The wind blows.
The rain falls.
And each season comes and goes, effortlessly honoring its cycle. Even in the face of so much pain and unthinkable acts of violence.
Whenever I’m outside, taking in the rustling leaves or the smell of the air, I’m reminded that even when it all just feels so terrible – life keeps going.
There’s always a duality: light and dark coexisting.
At times, it doesn’t make sense to my human brain, which is constantly categorizing and labeling and finding confirmation of what it believes to be true.
But in other moments, I remember that we live on a planet floating in outer space, part of a vast Universe we hardly know anything about.
Every time I come back to that truth, I’m reminded that nature is wiser than we will ever be. It moves with a rhythm connected to something infinitely bigger than we can imagine, something that holds both the mystery and the answers we’re searching for.
The more I sit with this season I’m in – figuring out what my place is in the crazy world, where I want to devote my heart and energy – the more I’m reminded that I want to live here, be here, see here.
In THIS place. Not the one inside a 6x3 inch device.
I remember how simple life was when these little things were only for calling and texting. Don’t you?
It was easy to wake up and get on with the day – to pray/meditate, journal, shower, make breakfast – and only discover what was going on in the world once we flipped on the TV, read the paper, or got to the office.
We weren’t instantly hit with emails, headlines, videos, or bad news before we even got out of bed.
All of this is to say, I’ve been actively taking my energy back from my iPhone.
🌿 The First Step: No longer being at the mercy of social media – something that was supposed to support my business but had stopped giving a good return on investment.
🌿 The Second Step: Taking breaks from Instagram, Facebook, and even ChatGPT. These platforms are designed to keep us hooked, which makes it even more important to take them off my phone for a while.
🌿 The Third Step: Filling my free time more intentionally. Writing, creating fun activities for my kids, playing with new recipes for dinner, making our home beautiful and cozy, being more thoughtful in how I nurture relationships.
This season has been about slowing down, taking stock of what feels good and what doesn’t, prioritizing my people, and focusing on how I can be the healthiest version of myself possible (more to come on this topic!).
And I can’t tell you how much more at ease my nervous system feels, how much more connected I am to myself, and how much more excited I am about life.
Moving to a different state was my wakeup call – impossible to see in the beginning, but now, whoa, I am forever grateful.
✨ Now I’m curious — is there a part of you that’s craving less screen time and more real life? If so, what might it look like to take that energy back for yourself?
Because I do think we’re being asked to reclaim our energy and attention — not just to be more present, but so we can feel more alive, more empowered, and more fulfilled in our own lives.
Big hug,
Blair
